To apply through our UWC national committee, you must meet the following criteria:
1. Age requirement
Applicants should be 16 or 17 years old at the time of enrolment. This typically aligns with students entering the final two years of secondary education, but specific age requirements may vary by UWC school or college.
2. Educational background
Applicants should be currently enrolled in grade 10 or 11, as corresponding to the Albanian High School Programme and must:
- Have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 8.5 or the equivalent, calculated as follows:
- Average of the final subject grades of Grade 10 (for applicants in Grade 11), OR
- Average of the final subject grades of Grade 9 and final exams for applicants in Grade 10;
A strong academic record is important, but we also value a demonstrated commitment to learning beyond the classroom through extracurricular activities.
3. Residency and nationality
Candidates applying through UWC Albania must:
- Be a citizen of the Republic of Albania, and/or
- Have held Albanian residency for the past 5 years, and/or
- Be of Albanian descent in a country without a National Committee

4. Personal qualities and values
While academic excellence is important, UWC seeks students who exhibit:
- A strong commitment to UWC’s values, including intercultural understanding, mutual respect, and sustainability.
- A desire to make a positive impact in their communities.
- Determination, open-mindedness, intelligence, curiosity, collaboration, and engagement.
- A successful applicant should be able to represent Albania (language, culture, etc.). Should you not fulfill this criterion, it is possible to apply directly to the colleges as part of an international quota. However, you can only submit one application at a given time.
- The resilience and adaptability needed for an international and rigorous residential educational experience.
5. Language requirements
UWC schools and colleges primarily use English as the language of instruction. While fluency is not required at the time of application, applicants are advised to attain a basic proficiency in English and demonstrate a willingness to improve their language skills.

Should you not fulfill the criteria above, there is still the possibility to apply directly to the colleges as part of a Global Selection Programme through the UWC International site or through another National Committee. However, you cannot apply via two different routes in the same year.
